The vision for the library went well beyond meeting operational needs. The goal was a space that feels warm, inviting, and intuitive for visitors of all ages, so every element, from the placement of shelving to the style of seating, was chosen to encourage exploration, comfort, and engagement.

A highly collaborative delivery approach set this project apart. All furnishings and shelving were coordinated and managed directly through the general contractor, which kept communication seamless and the execution cohesive. This integrated process allowed us to work closely with stakeholders and align every design decision with the broader architectural and community vision.

The completed 13,500-square-foot facility more than doubles the collection size of the former branch. It offers a bright, modern environment filled with natural materials and sustainable design features, along with amenities that include a children's area, a fireplace lounge, study and meeting rooms, a makerspace equipped with a 3D printer, and EV charging stations. Built in alignment with the Wood First Initiative, the library celebrates both sustainability and craftsmanship, reflecting the values and aspirations of the growing Sooke community.

The result is more than a library. It's a thoughtfully designed hub that blends function and beauty, inviting people to gather, read, learn, and connect, and echoic is proud to have helped create this lasting community cornerstone.
