Keyano College
Esports has quickly become one of the most dynamic arenas in college sports, and Keyano College is leading the way in Canada.
With our team by its side, the college opened its SMG Esports Arena in January 2024, featuring 26 computers, three console stations, flexible common areas, and a varsity stage.
Our partnership with Keyano goes back to the early 2000s, when we began furnishing classrooms, lounges, and offices across their Fort McMurray campus. That history made us their first choice for this unique project. We got involved before a location had even been chosen, using 3D renderings to plan a furniture strategy that would support both students and technology. Our Edmonton team also immersed itself in esports culture to make sure the space had a genuine cool factor for the students who would use it.
The arena features a dark palette accented with school colours, and Mavix gaming chairs offer lumbar support, adjustable arms, and seat cooling. Built-in desk power keeps cords out of the way, strategic zones leave room for players and spectators, and visible computer towers show off their signature lights. Modular tables and moveable soft seating let the space adapt to drop-ins, birthday parties, and corporate events.
Detailed renderings made installation smooth, with minimal changes on site. "The renderings eliminate 90% of the questions we would otherwise encounter," says Derek Burrowes of echoic. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and as Keyano's program grows, the arena is ready to grow with it.
