Grande Prairie High School

In 2022, the school moved into a brand-new, purpose-built facility with spacious senior trades shops, a theatre, state-of-the-art technology, an oversized gymnasium, and enhanced accessibility, giving every student the opportunity to thrive.

The school wanted a building that stood out from the typical high school, and our team at echoic worked closely with its leadership from early planning onward. Brief initial meetings grew into in-depth, collaborative discussions, with our team bringing new designs and products to the table and refining them through many rounds of revisions. The principal was deeply involved throughout, weighing how every choice would look, work, and serve students.

The school's phoenix logo, a symbol of renewal and rising to the occasion, shaped much of the design. Its orange, green, and blue colours run throughout the building, from vibrant, flexible furniture to distinctive gathering areas. On the third floor, a bright lounge overlooking the city features modular seating that students can rearrange for group projects, quiet study, or simply relaxing. For focused individual work, modern study carrels in the school colours give each student a personal work surface, with acoustic panels that keep the surrounding space calm and quiet.

Beyond the interior, we also redesigned an outdoor courtyard used for outdoor education and breaks, adding picnic tables, recycled rubber rocks and logs for seating, and a totem pole in the school's colours.

Detailed planning made for a smooth delivery. Our team delivered, assembled, and placed every piece exactly as planned, then cleaned up and removed all packaging. The result is a showpiece school that has drawn visitors from across Alberta, and an inspiring environment where students can grow, thrive, and look ahead to a bright future.
